Teldon's ABDC Rewatch Review- Season 3, Episode 4 - Whack Track Challenge

 SAFE CREWS:

Quest Crew dancing to "You Got It (The Right Stuff)" by New Kids on the Block
Challenge: Perform the crotch grab pendulum in their routine
Was it clean? Yes they were back to their smooth and high energy style this episode.  The only thing off was the visual illusion segment.  While creative as hell, it just felt off and seemed kinda flat. 9 pts
Was it well thought out? To a degree.  The opening was just slow and clunky and could have been sped up just a touch.  The middle also felt a bit out of touch to the opening and the ending.  Things picked up in the end and made up for the middle and the beginning. 8 pts
How well did they do the challenge? While I personally did not like the visual illusion it was something unexpected and took the move to a new level. Later on when they did the dance move as a crew it was done flawlessly and powerfully.  10 pts
What were the highlights?  The transition for the illusion to the choreo was brilliant.
What, if anything, took away from the performance? the first part was just too slow.
Total points- 27 pts

Strikers All-Stars dancing to "2 Legit 2 Quit" by MC Hammer
Challenge: Perform the hand gestures and big movements from the video

Was it clean? Another downgrade for them in this department.  Again I like the fact they keep adding new elements to their routines but they seem to be losing themselves.  The upside down part was horribly out of sync with each other and it took them a bit to get back to being one unit.  In audition, the wardrobe malfunction took away from the visual appeal and made you focus on him instead of the crew as a whole. 7 pts
Was it well thought out? Like most of their routines yes it was.  They took big moves throughout the routine and built slowly into a solid routine.  8 pts
How well did they do the challenge? The hand gestures were not used enough.  It seemed like they did them just to get it done.  They did the moves well but didn't really add to it like Quest did earlier.  It might have been better if they had went first instead of second. 8 pts
What were the highlights? The athletics shown at the beginning showed yet another side to this crew.  In addition, I loved the formation  were they slowly reversed a pyramid.
What, if anything, took away from the performance? I don't mind sexy routines or sexy crews I think they are great.  However, they focused on that a bit too much at the end.
Total points- 23 pts

Beat Freaks dancing to "Pretty Fly (For a White Guy)" by The Offspring
Challenge: Perform the Carlton dance
Was it clean? For a "sloppy" nerd dance they made it look great and together.  While giving off the illusion of being a "bad" dance routine they were together the whole time even when doing the floor work. 10 pts
Was it well thought out? Yes it was well thought out and surprisingly sexy.  See ladies you can do sexy and make it look natural.  They really owned the characters they became and made themselves feel like a completely different crew. 10 pts
How well did they do the challenge? While the other parts were great and amazing this is were it fell short to me.  I could see them do the challenge move but it was so overshadowed by
everything else they did it felt like it was not there to me.  5 pts
What were the highlights? The ending were they stayed in character and got JC's autograph.
What, if anything, took away from the performance? While I felt like they did not do the Carlton that hard nothing really took away from the routine.
Total points- 25 pts

Dynamic Edition dancing to "Achy Breaky Heart" by Billy Ray Cyrus
Challenge: Perform while incorporating country line-dancing
Was it clean? For most of the performance.  The only thing that they messed up on was placement in the partner section and sync issues with upper body movements after the floor work. 7 pts
Was it well thought out? It was a cute routine that managed to fit some of the stereotypes of "country" dancing into the routine.  From the partner work to the barn dance style moves it was great 9 pts
How well did they do the challenge?  Like with Beat Freaks and SaS I did not see that much of their challenge in the routine.  I thought it was creative having two thrids of the crew do the line dance moves on the floor but it was over so quickly. However,
you did remember them doing it. 8 pts
What were the highlights? The barn dance elements really stood out to help make this a good routine.
Total points- 24 pts

THE BOTTOM TWO

Did America get it right? Honestly, I am surprised Fly Khicks is here after a really great routine the week before.  In addition, kinda surprised Ringmasters made it back into the bottom as well.  The only one from last week I felt that should be here is Dynamic Edition with the other
spot being a toss-up.

Ringmasters dancing to "Macarena" by Los Del Rio
Challenge: Perform using the Macarena dance
Was it clean? To a degree. It was not on the level that they were on the week before.  They were off step with each other throughout the entire routine.  Most noticeably with the upside down parts. 5 pts
Was it well thought out? Not so much.  Last week they did a theme and told a story this week just felt a bit disjointed in places.  The transitions were OK but not that great. 7 ptsHow well did they do the challenge? Like most the crews tonight they did the dance move but didn't really make it pop.  When they did do the Macarena it was weak and not together. 5 pts
What were the highlights? Their tutting section was well put together.
What, if anything, took away from the performance? Sadly, the rest of the performance.
Total points- 17 pts

Fly Khicks dancing to "Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)" by C+C Music Factory
Challenge: Perform the running man
Was it clean? Yes it was.  Maybe just a few out of sync moments in the beginning and with the formations changes but they were totally in sync with the scarves. 8 pts
Was it well thought out? Again another sexy routine without being slutty.  They opened strong and kept the focus on the challenge.  They had some great transitions that built on each other and made teh routine stronger as a whole. 8 pts
How well did they do the challenge? Like Quest they brought the special dance move hard and in new ways.  Whether by doing on each others back, on the floor or in reverse.  They really did rise to the occasion.  10 pts
What were the highlights? The running man done on the back of the rest of the crew.
Total points- 26 pts

Did the judges get it right?  Yes they did.  While RM had been getting better they were clearly outdanced by Fly Khicks.
----------------------------------------------------------
Thoughts on the eliminated crew- Guys -- you should have been dancing at this level from the beginning.  The exhibitionism shown the first two weeks really killed you all.

Thoughts on the episode as a whole- The first time I watched this episode I really did not like it.  Now I actually enjoyed it.  Again another good episode with only one so so routine.
